Deal on CZ550 in 416 Rigby
Gents,
Been lurking around the web pricing guns and came across this deal. Were I ready to excuse the pun, pull the trigger, I think this a very good deal from Cabelas in Billings, MT on a new CZ in 416 Rigby.

That is a very good deal. Normally you dont get the stock bolts until you move up to the Classic line or pay extra and I think they charge about 100 bucks each for them. The only thing missing to be in full safari mode is a barrel band swivel.

Ahh, but aint life grand?! There was a time when I didnt think I would be able to relish my vittles if I didnt get a .416 Rigby, but it passed. Then it was the .404 Jeffery which I got instead. No regrets. I have gotten some good deals on components on Gunbroker and others for a better price than retail including loaded ammo and even some Swift bullets for half price in that caliber. Decisions, decisions.

I have two cz 550. The first in 2004 was liberated in zimbabwe. That rifle was accurate and performed very well. It's replacement was bought in 2006 as a replacement and it was crap. The action was very rough and I couldnt get it sighted in to an acceptable level. Ultimately the stock cracked near the sling lug. I found out the company moved production to the US between the two dates.
Now the silver lining...when I was about to chunk the rifle I found out about this company that does the cz upgrade. Can't remember the name but I think it is EAA. Anyway they offer 3 different upgrades. I went with the most extreme. They returned me a beautiful functional and accurate piece of art. It looks and performs like a dakota. So....I think everyone that buys one should ship it immediately to those guys and you will have an incredible rifle at half the price as a custom.

I wonder if you had the rifle sent to American Hunting Rifles? See the link.

Yep. That is the one. I did option 3 and it came back looking like the pictured 404 Jeffrey.

The primary builder using the Czech made barreled actions for the Safari Classic line is Triple River Gunsmithing in Warsaw, MO. They are where I was sent to by CZ when I wanted work done on my .404

Yes, it looks like a nice rifle! As long as your wife doesn't kill you or find out (lol). Your ok! And it sounds like a logical purchase

Yes buy it! Then send it to Wayne at AHR for his CZ #1 Upgrade kit. That's what I did with my 500 Jeffery. You get an M70 type 3 pos safety, a single stage match quality trigger and he straightens and fills the bolt. He'll also look over the rifle for you and tell you if it needs any other work. He's not terribly expensive and a great guy to deal with.

I got this rifle in .416 Rigby about 18 months ago. The brass is pricey!!!!! but if you reload, and keep pressures where they should be for 2,400 fps with a 400gr bullet they will last forever. It seems to be pretty accurate for a big gun too.
If am getting really, really tempted to send it off for a 'makeover'. That 500 Jeff above is gorgeous. I'd want the extra piece of mind that would come from having somebody smart give it a good look. Mine feeds a bit rough off the ramp and I'd want that smoothed out if/when I actually start chasing the DG critters.

Thanks! The 3 pos safety, trigger and bolt straightening filling were definitely "wants not needs". The CZ 550 trigger is pretty good, and the stock safety is like my Rem 700s, no problem there. If you do want it looked over though, Wayne at AHR is a great guy to send it to.
